In the new year that has started in the continuity of the past, road accident are becoming a cause of increasing panic. The situation is such that there is no guarantee that anyone will be able to return safely after stepping out of the house. Along with various social fears, this fear has also become an essential part of people's dailt worries. Every day In addition to the multifaceted initiatives of various organizations on road accidents, from experts to the media, the people including the civil society have been urging the government to take immediate and appropriate steps in this regard. Moreover it is safe to say that there is no sign of effective action by the government in this regard. We have been seen a large number of student movements centered on road accidents in the past.

We have all come across a report on road accidents across the country in the last month of the outgoing year, December. The report was  published quoting an organization called 'Road Safety Foundation'. If we represent some information from a significant part of this detailed analytical report, then a horrible picture of road accidents comes to our notice. It shows that a total of 417 people lost their lives in 363 road accidents in December last year. Of these, 63 are women, 49 are children and rest are men. According to the nature of the accident, only 178 people lost their lives in the motorcycle accident. The proportion of total accidents is 43.60%. According to the report the number of motorcycle accidents on the road has increased alarmingly in recent times, which is a matter of great concern. Because it is seen that most of the victims in such accidents are school-college students and young people. As a result, the country is losing potentially valuable future as well as family and some precious lives. In such a situation, it is important for our families to be more aware along with the overall awareness. They should not hand over a motorcycle to the boy if they want to satisfy their cravings.

This is what happened last year. we start the new year with new hope at the end of each year. We talk about various plans. we convinced of various possibilities and steps in various fields. But looking at the reality, everything is the same as before. Rather the reality is that our fears are multiplied.

I have picked up the information from some of the leading national and regional dailies and online web portals analyzing the news of the first seven days of the road accident that the year have just started., seeing that it will not be difficult for anyone to guess how much our future safety on the road will be.

According to the data analysis, a total of 43 road accidents have taken place across the country in the last seven days from January 1 to January 7, 2022. A total of 60 people lost their lives, including 47 men, 09 women and 03 children. Depending on the type of accident, bus-truck-CNG driven autorickshaw-tractor-nasimon that is motorcycle apart from that, there have been 21 accidents involving other motor vehicles, 29 accidents involving motorcycles and 10 accidents involving road crossings or car crashes. The accidents took place in a total of 20 districts across the country, of which 16 were on highways and 28 on regional roads. District wise analysis shows that in Barisal district maximum 07, in Tangail district 04, in Dhaka, Bogra and Laxmipur districts 03, two accidents occurred in kumilla, Patuakhali, Dinajpur, Jessore, Narayangonj, Joypurhat and Naogaon districts and one accident occurred in Sunamgonj, Magura, Bagerhat, Sirajgonj, Jhenaidah, Khagrachhrri, Gazipur, Khulna, Sherpur and Pabna districts. And it can be seen that in the first seven days of the year, as in the past, the number of motorcycle accidents is the highest among the road accidents that is 29 out of 43 accidents. As a percentage which stands at 7.44% ; which is 23.84% higher than the previous month's figures. It is easy to imagine the stage at which anxiety can reach. In such a reality, the government should prepare a definite roadmap with the opinion of experts to prevent road accidents and establish safe roads. At the same time, it is imperative for each of us to be more aware of our position as well as to play an effective role.
